The amount of tourism in Israel is increasing fast, with around 4 million visitors every year. Israel has a booming tourism industry — in fact, it’s one of the main sources of income!

It’s easy to see why. Israel is a beautiful country with an interesting culture and so much to see and do.

If you’ve decided to visit Israel, however, it’s important to pack appropriately. The climate in the country may not be what you’re used to, among other notable differences!

Follow these guidelines for your travel checklist and you’ll do just fine.

Advance Preparation

You may only be thinking about what to physically pack, but it’s important to make sure you’re prepared for Israel in other ways! Make sure the following are checked for your Israel travel adventure.

Flights

Flights are the important thing to remember! They sound obvious, but too many people leave their arrangements to the last minute and end up paying a huge amount.

The best time to book for an international trip is around six months out, so start keeping an eye on prices then.

Accommodation

Make sure your accommodation is booked! More and more people are investing in Israel and it’s becoming a popular country, so things book up fast.

Insurance

The importance of insurance can’t be overstated.

What if you get sick? What if your luggage is lost on the flight?

Look for good travel insurance.

Activities

Some day trips and activities may need to be booked in advance. Try to plan at least a rough schedule and book what you need to!

Physical Travel Checklist

If you’re a smart traveler, you’ll do all of those things first! Then it’s time for the physical travel packing list. Make sure you have all of these items:

  • A head covering for entering holy sites
  • A travel adapter, as the outlets aren’t the same as North America
  • A front-facing bag to hold your belongings, to protect from pickpockets in busy areas
  • Modest but airy clothing, as it’s culturally respectful to dress this way in religious areas
  • Sunglasses
  • A portable charger, in case you run out of battery
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Any medication you take, as this should always be with you

Other than these essentials, you can decide what to take! Some more modern places, like Tel Aviv, will allow you to dress up and get fancy without having to worry about modesty, so consider a nice outfit too.

As long as you have these things and basic necessities like underwear and toiletries, you’ll be just fine.

Enjoy Israel!

Make sure to enjoy Israel after completing your travel checklist! Make sure you have all the necessary travel basics (like insurance, an adapter, etc.) and also specifically consider where you’re going so you remember things like modest long skirts and a head covering.

Israel is a beautiful country, and you’ll be glad you made the trip.
