Next you’ll want to take a hard look at your backhand and forehand grips. There are tons of simple ways you can become a better badminton player, keep reading to learn more about my top 5 things to do to become a better badminton player.

1. Check Your Gear
Making sure that you have good quality gear can give you a lot of confidence that nothing besides you is limiting you. If you’re someone who needs to look good to feel confident, then you might want to make sure that you feel good in the sports wear you’re using too. Beyond that, a comfortable pair of shoes, a good quality Yonex Badminton Racket and you’re basically good to go. Be sure to regularly check your gear, especially checking your racket for any wear and tear that might affect gameplay.

2. Consider Your Grip
How you hold the racket is going to be such a big factor in how you play. If you’re holding it incorrectly you wont have as much power or precision when you hit. That can impact how successful your game will be, and it can also result in you feeling fatigued or even injuring yourself. The best way to improve your grip and how you play is to practice hitting the shuttle towards the ceiling, choosing only one grip. Then practice with the other grip. Once you’ve mastered both, you can alternate them and even juggle. If you want to perfect this skillset, practice doing it while walking.

3. Practice Lunging
Badminton is a game that involves the whole body, so you don’t want to ignore exercise and working out in order to improve your physical fitness. Lunging can be a great way to build extra upper leg strength, which will help ensure that you’re moving around the court as fast as you can. The extra strength in your legs will also help to prevent injuries as you’ll be much more mobile and you’ll be able to reach the shuttle more quickly.

4. Get Your Opponent Moving

I’m sure you’ve played a game of badminton where you’ve been chasing the shuttlecock around the court, and it’s so exhausting! Maybe your strategy was good for this game and the opponent, but you got so worn out that you couldn’t compete? This is a great strategy to use when you’re playing. Fire the shuttlecock around the opponents court, intentionally wearing them out, and you’ll have more energy than them which you can hopefully use to your advantage.

5. Perfect Your Serve
Starting each set off on the right foot, so to speak, can do wonders for your confidence and it can also have the opposite effect on your opponent. There are quite a few different types of serves, so it is important to learn them all and to perfect them as much as possible. For example there’s the backhand serve, the forehand serve, and different types of serves that will work for singles and doubles games. You can even try to blindfold yourself to perfect the serve without your normal senses. You can also vary the size of the serve, alternating longer and shorter serves to keep your opponent always on their toes

Becoming a better badminton player doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Use these 5 tips to perfect your game and to make huge strides in how you play.
